On Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 10am, Mr. Lee Moore will present a class on “Japanese Maples in the Landscape” at the Montgomery Botanical Gardens in the PHASE II area of MBG parallel to Forest Avenue. Mr. Moore will inform the attendees about how and where to plant Japanese Maple trees in our home landscapes as specimen trees and/or groupings. He will also demonstrate how to graft a specimen onto the root stock of a different Japanese Maple.
Japanese Maple trees, acer palmatum, are often desired for their colorful fall foliage. The leaves of various cultivars turn shades of green, yellow, red, gold and burgundy in the fall. These trees are also desired for their shape, form and smaller size. They can be used as a lone specimen or planted in groups, lines or other formations for different visual effects. Japanese Maples are often used as elegant Bonsai forms.
Mr. Lee Moore raises Japanese Maples. He and his family donated the trees for the Japanese Maple Garden in Phase II of Montgomery Botanical Gardens which will be completed in February of 2027.
Please join us at Montgomery Botanical Gardens at Oak Park Saturday morning, November 7 and bring a friend. There will be folding chairs available, but you may desire to bring your own chair. Water will be available. Plan to tour the gardens after the class and enjoy this beautiful oasis of nature in the midst of urban Montgomery that is such a great asset to our community.
